SCOTTON SCORCHERS V TOCKWITH TROJANS

Saturday 03 Feb 2007

The Trojans had another fantastic display of skill, determination and team spirit. Playing Scotton was not going to be easy. The last time we played them we lost 6 – 0, and the pitch at Scotton was not only like a miniature version of the Yorkshire Wolds with rolling hills on one half, it was also popular with the local mole community and seemed to be slipping away off the side of the hill it had been carved out of. Anyway, it’s the same for both teams as they say….

We started with the League fixture and it was soon very obvious to Scotton that the Trojans had improved a great deal since they last met. Ed was again outstanding in goal and his defence of Eugene, Catherine and Sophie were solid and dependable, frustrating the Scotton attack at every turn. In the midfield, new boy Luke, was getting to grips with the game and showing the opposition true Trojan spirit in his holding midfield role. Steven Gerrard couldn’t have done a better job.

The Trojan Hudle

Up front George/Ashley and Scott were running at the opposing defence at every opportunity and were continually frustrated by a good display of goalkeeping. In the end we lost 3-0, but we were not to be disappointed, we came to improve upon our last performance and we certainly did that. The score-line flattered Scotton and we knew it.

Then it was the turn of the next set of Trojans. They gamely set about dismantling the best efforts of the opposition. Olly was filling the goal with a fearsome presence and Stephanie, April and Becks were always first to the ball to clear it back to our midfield. Alexander, who from here on will be known as “Stan” was in sparkling form. Great tackling and mazy dribbles were performed for the delight of the Trojans support. William had a great match with some lovely touches of the ball. The game was a 1-1 draw, however, as Scotton played most of the first half, (and scored) whilst they were playing with 1 extra player, we are claiming a moral victory for the Trojans. Well done guys.

A third match was then underway and the fitness and power of the Trojans was evident from the start. We were all over them. Scott moved back into defence to play as a wing-back and on that performance could easily be giving Ashley Cole a run for his money. Stan played up front with Eugene and Luke in the midfield and the Trojans were on top from start to finish. The game finished 0-0 but Scotton now know that we are a force to be reckoned with. We are all looking forward to the next match with a growing confidence and a belief in our abilities. Well done Trojans.
