Nidderdale 'Friendly' League Squad

TOCKWITH TROJANS V BECKWITHSAW

Saturday 23rd September saw Tockwith Trojans in their first match. The opposition was Beckwithshaw but it could have been anyone, we didn’t care.

Everyone played with energy, commitment and huge amounts of effort. The sportsmanship and teamwork shown by all was a credit to Tockwith Juniors FC. Trojans, you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Edward Keen was outstanding for the League team, showing some really brave goalkeeping skills. Eugene Cross, the John Terry of Tockwith, let nothing past him. Becky Pearson and Catherine Ganley, neither of whom was intimidated by the fact that the opposition were bigger, stronger and all boys, ably assisted him in defence.

Ashley Bradshaw worked very hard and I can see that he has the potential to be a very useful footballer. April Hendry and George Williamson gave the opposition defence a lot to think about and kept them very busy. Scott Sheerins made some lovely powerful runs up the wing and when we learn to get on the business end of his corner kicks there will be no stopping us.

The friendly match, which followed, was also played in a great spirit.

I was very proud to see William Lake playing for Tockwith; he settled in quickly and put in a few strong challenges. Sophie Search was outstanding in defence, when we get her and Eugene playing together I suspect our goalkeeper will have little to do. Alexander Palmer, a late addition to the Trojans, showed great determination and skill as he went about his job in defence. Katy McGinn and Stephanie Kuunal put together some lovely passes and pushed forward, constantly causing problems for the opposition. Oliver Bowes showed why he is the U10s B team goalkeeper with a very confident display.

The matches were two of the most exciting games I have seen, with end-to-end action from start to finish. With a few more weeks to practice before our next match I suspect things are going to get even better.

Well done, everyone, I am very proud of you. Keep working hard in training and it won’t be long before the goals are going in.
