The U9’s Nidderdale squad started the new season with an emphatic
win, beating last years league champions 3-0.
Tockwith
started on the back foot, with only the odd foray into Beckwithshaw
territory. Dan, Oliver and Tom Meg’ had to work hard in defence
to ensure that Jack was untroubled in goal. As the defensive line
held firm Tockwith grew in confidence and began to compete in the
game.
Tom B
and Bailey linked up well in midfield and started to put some useful
balls through to Jo in attack, but with little support, Joe was often
crowded out by a resolute Beckwithshaw defence.
With possession even, it was Jo who was first to find the back of
the net, picking up a loose ball in a goalmouth scramble and firing
past the visiting keeper. From that point on it was Tockwith who started
to dominate proceedings and they could have been 3 goals to the good
before the break, but for some heroic defending by the visitors.
After
the break, Tockwith found another gear and were dominating in all
areas of the park. Oliver, Dan and Stella’s steely determination
at the back ensured that Jack was rarely troubled in goal. What was
even more pleasing was the way in which they cleared their lines.
Every ball was finding a hooped shirt, and it wasn’t long before
Bailey, Tom and Jo were starting to put their mark on the game. The
passing and movement was at times breathtaking and with Dan pushing
forward to support the midfield it wasn’t long before Tockwith
had increased their lead. Tom B picked up a short pass on the right
of the centre from Dan and went on a jinking run, past a couple of
defenders before unleashing a thunderbolt into the roof of the net.
Another goal by Jo made the points safe and gave the team a fantastic
start the new season.
