CODES OF CONDUCT

Anti-bullying Policy

  1. The aim of the anti-bullying policy is to ensure that all players develop in a safe, caring environment without the fear of being bullied. Bullying is an anti-social behaviour and affects everyone; it is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated at TJFC.

  2. Bullying is defined as deliberately hurtful behaviour, repeated over a period of time, where it is difficult for those being bullied to defend themselves. The three main types of bullying are:

    • Physical e.g. (hitting, kicking, theft)
    • Verbal e.g. (name calling, racist or sexist remarks)
    • Indirect e.g. (spreading rumours, excluding someone from social   groups).

Players who are being bullied may show changes in behaviour, such as becoming shy and nervous, feigning illness, missing training and/or games.

PLAYERS / PARENTS / CARERS MUST BE ENCOURAGED TO REPORT BULLYING TO ANY CLUB COMMITTEE OFFICIAL OR THE CLUB CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER.

  3. The following steps will be taken when dealing with incidences of bullying:
    • If bullying is suspected or reported, the incident will be dealt with   immediately by the team manager/coach in charge.
    • A clear account of the incident will be recorded. Records of incidents   will be held by the Child Protection Officer for up to 6 months before   being destroyed. If the incident is not resolved by the team   manager/coach, then it will be dealt with by the Executive Committee.
    • Punitive measures will be used as appropriate and in consultation with   all parties concerned.

  4. Players who have been bullied will be supported by:
    • Being offered an immediate opportunity to discuss the experience with   the team manager/coach in charge.
    • An offer of re-assurance or support.
    • Restoring self-esteem.

  5. Players who have bullied will be helped by:
    • Discussing what happened.
    • Discovering why the player became involved.
    • Establishing the wrongdoing and need to change.
    • Informing the parents/carers to help change the attitude of the player, if   deemed appropriate.

  6. The following disciplinary steps can be taken:
    • Official warnings to cease offending.
    • Exclusion from certain Club activities e.g. matches, social events and   training.
    • Permanent exclusion from the Club.

  7. Monitoring, evaluation and review:
TJFC will review this policy (as with all policies) annually at its AGM and assess its implementation and effectiveness. The policy will be promoted and implemented throughout the Club.
